The client wanted to transform their existing bathroom into a modern, high-specification space with a walk-in shower as the centrepiece. The room was completely stripped back, re-plumbed to accommodate the new layout and fittings, and rebuilt with a recessed ceiling design incorporating feature LED lighting, full-height large format porcelain tiling, and a frameless walk-in shower enclosure.

The client supplied their own suite and fixtures, and we handled the full installation – from first-fix plumbing and electrics through to tiling, fitting, and final finishes. The project was completed within a two-week programme.

Scope of Works

Strip-out and Preparation

• Fully stripped the existing bathroom, removing the old suite, tiling, and fittings back to the bare walls and floor.
• Assessed the condition of the existing plumbing and electrical runs to plan the new layout.
• Prepared wall and floor surfaces ready for the new installation.

Plumbing & Electrics

• Re-plumbed the room to suit the new layout, repositioning waste, hot and cold supplies, and shower feeds to accommodate the walk-in shower and relocated suite.
• Installed new electrical circuits for the recessed ceiling lighting, extractor fan, and any additional power requirements.
• All plumbing and electrical work completed to current regulations before walls were closed.

Recessed Ceiling and Lighting Feature

• Constructed a recessed ceiling detail designed to create a contemporary lighting feature – one of the defining elements of the finished room.
• Fitted LED strip lighting within the recessed perimeter, providing warm, even illumination that gives the bathroom a high-end, spa-like feel.
• Integrated flush-mounted downlights for practical task lighting alongside the ambient feature lighting.

Tiling

• Tiled the bathroom floor to ceiling with large format porcelain tiles in a marble-effect finish, creating a seamless, high-end aesthetic.
• Precision-cut tiles to fit around fixtures, niches, and the shower enclosure with clean, consistent grout lines throughout.
• Formed a recessed shower niche for storage, tiled to match the surrounding walls for a fully integrated look.
• Applied waterproof tanking to all wet areas before tiling to ensure long-term durability and protection.

Walk-in Shower Installation

• Installed a walk-in shower with a frameless glass screen and brushed brass fittings, creating an open, spacious feel.
• Fitted a flush floor-level shower tray with correct falls for efficient drainage.
• Mounted a recessed shower valve and fixed rainfall showerhead for a clean, minimal appearance.

Suite and Fixture Installation

• Installed the client-supplied sanitaryware — wall-hung WC, vanity unit with basin, and all brassware.
• Connected and tested all plumbing, ensuring correct pressure, flow, and waste drainage.
• Fitted a heated towel radiator in a contemporary ladder-style design, complementing the overall aesthetic.

Finishing

• Applied silicone sealing to all junctions between tiles, fixtures, and glass for a watertight, clean finish.
• Carried out a final inspection and clean, testing all fixtures and drainage before handover.

Outcome

The finished bathroom is a complete transformation — from a dated, tired space to a modern, high-specification room that feels significantly larger and brighter than the original. The recessed ceiling lighting creates an ambient warmth that elevates the room beyond a standard bathroom installation, while the full-height large format porcelain tiles and frameless walk-in shower deliver the clean, contemporary aesthetic the client was looking for. The project was completed within the two-week programme and handed back ready to use.
