Boardroom and Reception Area Refurbishment
Complete refurbishment of the boardroom, reception, and walkways, creating a modern, functional space.

Project Overview
Summary:
We were commissioned to modernise a boardroom that had remained largely unchanged for over two decades. Following an initial stakeholder meeting, the brief expanded to include the main reception and connecting walkways to create a cohesive first-impression for visitors and staff. Works included full strip-out, relocation of a door, new ceiling and flooring, full redecoration, and the installation of a compact coffee station with under-counter fridge to improve hospitality during meetings.
Objectives & constraints
The priority was a professional, durable and easy-to-maintain finish delivered within a tight six-week window, minimising disruption to day-to-day operations. Door relocation required careful coordination for fire escape strategy, access control and finishes continuity. Material choices focused on longevity, ease of cleaning and a neutral palette that would age well and complement existing corporate branding.
Pre-construction & coordination
We conducted a measured survey to confirm set-out for the new door opening and to validate ceiling and flooring quantities. Early design checks covered swing direction and ironmongery for the relocated door, service routes for the coffee point (power, water and waste) and junction details where the boardroom works met the reception/walkway refresh. A short-form programme, RAMS and delivery plan were agreed with the client and building management prior to mobilisation.
Scope of works
Demolition & enabling
Careful removal of dated finishes and existing ceiling components; protection to adjacent areas; safe isolation of services; waste segregation and compliant disposal.
Door relocation
Create a new opening with appropriate lintel/support as required; close up and make good the previous opening; install new door set with ironmongery, architraves and skirtings; redecorate for a seamless finish. Clear routes and leaf swing reviewed against escape and access needs.
Ceiling installation
New ceiling system to provide a crisp, modern line, conceal services and enhance perceived height; perimeter trims and shadow gaps formed to suit the agreed aesthetic; access points retained where required for future maintenance.
Flooring
Removal of old floor coverings; substrate preparation including levelling and repairs; installation of new commercial-grade flooring to the boardroom with matching transitions into reception and walkways for visual continuity.
Coffee station
Compact hospitality unit with under-counter fridge; discreet power provision; plumbing and waste to manufacturer guidance; splash-resistant finishes and clean junctions with adjacent walls/floor.
Decoration
Full redecoration to boardroom, reception and walkways: surface preparation, filling and sanding, prime/undercoat where required, and two-coat finish in a neutral corporate palette; door frames, skirtings and trims finished for a sharp, durable edge.
Compliance, H&S & building coordination
Works delivered under agreed RAMS with daily briefings and site inspections. Door relocation checked against fire strategy and access requirements; all penetrations sealed to maintain lines of protection. Deliveries and noisy works scheduled to avoid peak occupancy.
Outcome
The boardroom now presents a clean, contemporary environment with coherent finishes, a practical hospitality point and improved circulation from the relocated door. Extending the scheme into the reception and walkways provides a unified first-impression and strengthens brand presentation from arrival to meeting room. The project was delivered on programme and to budget, with positive feedback from the board and staff on both usability and appearance.
